Sleepagotchi Community Update #1: Alpha release, first reviews and marketplace launch

Dear Sleepagotchi community,
We are excited to start our community update series, which we plan to release regularly in the future.
First, a big thank you to all our Discord members. You all rock — we reached more than 300 Discord members, and 200 of you joined in the past week. Your support and positive feedback keep motivating us to ship new releases even faster.
We are moving fast:
- On April 18, 2022, we pivoted from another idea to a Sleep & Collect Digital Collectibles model, after conducting 16+ user interviews on Stepn and other apps and researching sustainable token model designs
- On May 8, 2022, we published the first version of Sleepagotchi’s whitepaper
- On May 26, 2022, we shipped our first Alpha v0.1! 🎉
Alpha v0.1 already has 14 live users. We selected 10 of those by conducting a raffle last Thursday on our Discord channel, The other 4 users are from our development team. We also sent invites to 12 new lucky users today.

We also noticed that our users took care to improve their sleep. Dozens of Discord members are sharing their tips on improving their sleep in our #sleep-tips chat. This excites us, as this means users actually try and improve their sleep, which is the mission of Sleepagotchi. Furthermore, one of our users got himself an iPhone specifically to be able to test out the Alpha, as it is only available on iOS devices for now.
Furthermore, Alpha v0.1 already has a marketplace, and even though we only have 14 live users, there is already a trading activity going on. Below are some screenshots from our 🏛marketplace Discord chat.
Below are the release notes for Alpha v0.1. It already has a lot of core functionality built in:
- Login and registration system
- Apple iOS Health Sleep data integration
- The “Eye” logic: users can claim tokens after sleep
- Item rewards logic: users can claim SleepBoxes after sleep
- Item level up system
- 9x items: 3x common, 3x uncommon, 3x rare
- Leaderboard
- Marketplace: users can buy and sell items

Sleepagotchi is inspired by many apps — Headspace, Calm, Duolingo, Stepn, and SleepTown. You probably heard about the first four, but maybe not about SleepTown. SleepTown is a five-year-old Web2 app, currently charted as #Top-50 in the iOS store Health & Fitness category. In SleepTown, users put their phones away for the night and get a building in the morning for their virtual town. SleepTown has an active Reddit community and helped tens of thousands of people to improve their sleep habits. Sleepagotchi builds upon SleepTown’s ideas and leverages gamification to help millions of people.
